Nepotism is Everywhere
14th June 2020, 2 PM -My sister shows me a post, “Sushant Singh Rajput Commits Suicide”
“Impossible!”, I said “They are just making up some stupid stories for fake TRP”
Now there’s a reason why I said that: I was watching this series (Riverdale) on Netflix and that’s the first thing that came to my mind!
Still, I Googled it. For the major reasons: I loved his acting and his movies of course and I had never missed a single episode of his daily soap, “Pavitra Rishta” (I was in 7th or 8th grade). I was never a Dhoni fan but Sushant’s acting in the biopic made me fall for him. His movie Chhichhore will remain very close to my heart because of two reasons: 1. It was the last movie I had watched with the very special person of my life in Ahmedabad and 2. It was the advanced version of 3 Idiots and showed us the true image of the current situation of students in the Indian education system.
I was speechless to see my newsfeed flooded with RIP posts within the next few minutes. Are they showing their respect or is it just another piece of content for them?
Definitely content! Because 48 hours later, the feed was again flooding with memes where he has reunited with his mom in the Heaven. The Angels are welcoming him. And pieces of stuff that nobody is mentally prepared to see right now!
Another funny campaign that went viral was “Talk to me!” “I’m here to listen to you!”
What now everybody has turned into a therapist suddenly? I don’t remember anybody willing to listen to the story of any depressed individual. And the once who tried to listen always ended up saying, “Relax! Everything will be just fine!”
A person who is facing depression is not even aware of what he himself is going through! There is a feeling of suffocation that they cannot describe in words… “Everything will be just fine! Relax! Don’t Worry! Don’t think too much!” These are the last thing they want to hear from anybody! They are not seeking any kind of advice. They just want someone to understand them even if it’s for a very short span of time!
Just when the audience was trying to process all this news, there flashed other headlines, we all know what!
Kangana Ranaut-Queen for a reason! She was bold enough to raise her voice against nepotism! The facts that she mentioned, were harsh, but the bitter truth of the Indian film industry. We must learn from her the perfect use of our freedom of speech!
Sushant was a self-made flawless actor who knew how to respect his co-stars. From being a famous daily soap artist to the superstar who gave more than 4 superhit films, the journey of this star is inspiring for every struggling artist.
These lines send positive vibes to our brains. But do we know that Sushant was rejected and ignored by more than 5 producers? Do we know that he was not welcomed in the industry because he was not having a Godfather? Even though he struggled over the years to earn his name and proved himself at every point that he never needed one!
Sushant considered himself as a boring person to hang out with! He said during one of his interviews that he had only 2 close friends to hang out with. He had nothing to talk about except his work. Some people are digging deeper to put the blame on somebody! Some people are talking about his depression! Some of us even tried to bring forward his relationship issues!
But finally, the audience decided to highlight their concern regarding Nepotism in Mayanagri! Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt making fun of him, pretending as if they heard his name for the first time. All his calls to Karan Johar went unanswered. And to this he tweets, “This was bound to happen”! (Seriously Karan!?)
Sushant earned his position by his own hard work! And so did Shah Rukh Khan once upon a time when he himself was struggling! So why did the videos of him making fun of Sushant publicly are getting leaked?
Why none of the Khan’s tweeted and shown their respect (that is how they do it in the 21st century, in a world dominated by Social Media). Why no superstar paid their last visit to him?
Are we blaming Nepotism for his action? Isn’t it everywhere?
Isn’t it in the school where the children of the school community board get the seat that was reserved for a scholarship student?
Isn’t it in the colleges where a deserving student is denied of his rights because the kids of the founding members raise their claim?
Isn’t it during the job placements where a suitable candidate is rejected because the grandchildren of the General Manager are already selected without any interview?
Nepotism is not a privilege but a disease. And knowingly or unknowingly we all are part of this. Every time you when you are taking advantage of your parents’ connection, power, relatives’ or friends' position just to achieve something in your life, you are doing nothing better than practicing nepotism!
So now instead of starting another campaign to ban the upcoming movies of star kids, can we just take a stand against nepotism. And not just Bollywood, but every little incident that gives rise to nepotism? Can we learn to become self-dependent and trust in our own skills and talents?
We don’t have to do something extreme -Just one step at a time!
Will Sushant come back to us by doing this?
No!
But at least we’ll save someone else from becoming him.
Be the inspiring version of you!
